Why Go: Trip Ideas

Boca Raton, FL (via Palm Beach):

Champagne Wishes

From champagne wishes to caviar dreams, Palm Beach's cousin city offers only the finest of what life has in store--but, of course.

It's what dreams are made of, caviar dreams that is--a place where palm-lined drives lead to mansion-lined marinas, which lead to yacht-lined docks. Developed in the 1920s as a beach getaway for American royalty, Boca Raton maintains the glamour of a grand era, when grandiose Spanish-style mansions were in fashion, and Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald appeared on the scene as regulars.

Today, Boca welcomes an equally jet-set crowd. Join the crowd this weekend to indulge in haute cuisine, upscale boutique browsing, and lounging on the beach. Linger through Old Floresta, a 1920s neighborhood of Mediterranean-style homes with grand open balconies, decorative wrought-iron gates and impeccable landscaping.

Surrounded by such beauty, one might think that Boca's striking aesthetic is only skin-deep--not so! Break from the afternoon heat with a retreat to dazzling collections at the The Boca Raton Museum of Art, featuring a fine selection of late 19th and 20th-century paintings and sculptures, and the Norton Gallery, with an extraordinary Old Master's collection including Bosch, Matisse and Renoir.

Why Go: Trip Ideas

Naples/Gulf Coast, FL (via Fort Myers): Florida's Riviera

More sophisticated than Florida's trendy east coast, Naples, and the diverse stretch of beaches surrounding it, please sunbathers, small tykes, and shoppers alike.

With easy access to undisturbed stretches of glistening white sand and the highest number of golf courses per capita in the world, Naples is topping the jet set's A-list of places to vacation. Once a humble fishing village, Naples is now recognized for its refined cuisine, upscale boutiques, and chartered yachts.

Despite its nouveau elegance, Naples has retained its humble nature. In Naples, long-time resident surfers and sunbathers share the sand with "ladies who lunch." Their mutual passion lies with Southwest Florida's near perfect climate. This bit of coast is known as the warmest place in the US in the winter, and is blessed with temperate breezes in the summer.

Find your niche along Southwest Florida's varied shorelines. Set your radar to swanky in Naples, or sport flip-flops and settle into the laid-back groove on Marco Island or Coconut Point, where mingling with dolphins and dining at salty seafood outposts make for a busy day.
